Home security has been a primary concern for ages but in today’s world where most of the areas are loaded with CCTV cameras and guards’, isolated incidents of thefts and burglary have not completely vanished. In metro cities theft and burglary have been reported in higher numbers in the past few years. Here are 5 ways you can make your home more secure.
- Keep the outdoors well lit – a crucial part of home security is to keep the surroundings visible at all times, especially during the nights. A good idea is to install lights with motion sensors which keep the area well-lit and save energy.
- CCTV – while most of the housing societies do have CCTV surveillance, individual homes must have CCTVs as the latest ones show direct footage on your smart phones and laptops. You can use the footage as evidence if something gets stolen for an Insurance claim as well.
- Use Camera Door Phone – Video Door phone has its own advantages as it not only warns you that somebody is at the door but also shows the video, if connected to Wi-Fi you can also access who is at the door at all times. They are handy and easy on pocket they start from Rs. 2000 onward.
- Be Aware – there is nothing wrong in being orthodox when it comes to home security. You must do what our ancestors have been doing for ages i.e. Keep the doors and windows locked when you are not in the room. Check all entrances before leaving home and tell your neighbors to watch if you are leaving the town.
- Use social media cautiously – While sharing your happy moments on social media is a good idea, sharing is not advisable when it comes to your home security. Refrain from providing your daily routine and travel plans on social media until you are back. Also turn off the public mode from all platforms to avoid any theft.
